Lake Norman Engagement Session | Janine & Rich | Amanda Moss Photography

August 24, 2026/ Amanda Moss

Some love stories begin in your twenties.

Others begin after you've lived a little.

Janine and Rich's Lake Norman engagement session was a reminder that love doesn't have an expiration date—and honestly, it doesn't need one.

Instead of chasing dramatic overlooks or crowded parks, we spent the evening exactly where they felt most at home: along the quiet docks of Lake Norman as the sun settled over the water.

There wasn't a complicated timeline or a long list of poses.

We simply walked.

They danced.

They laughed.

They kicked off their shoes.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, a curious duck decided it wanted to be part of the engagement session too.

(Obviously, we welcomed the photobomb.)

One of my favorite things about sessions like this is how quickly people stop worrying about the camera. The more we wandered the boardwalk and the docks, the more the evening became less about taking photos and more about spending time together.

Those are always my favorite sessions.

Lake Norman has no shortage of beautiful locations, but I love the quieter corners that let couples slow down. The reflections on the water, the soft evening light, the peaceful docks, and even the boats tucked away in the marina all became part of the story without ever stealing attention from the people in front of the camera.

As sunset faded into blue hour, Janine and Rich curled up together on the dock with bare feet dangling over the water. It was simple, peaceful, and the perfect way to end the evening.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that engagement sessions are only for younger couples planning traditional weddings.

They're not.
