8 Charlotte Wedding Venues You'll Love (And What to Know Before You Book)

Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you'll make during the planning process. It sets the tone for your day, influences your guest experience, and becomes the backdrop for the memories you'll look back on for decades.

As a Charlotte wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of photographing celebrations at venues all across the region. While every wedding is unique, there are a handful of venues that I genuinely get excited to see on my calendar. Not because they're trendy—but because they photograph beautifully, flow well throughout the day, and consistently create an incredible experience for couples and their guests.

If you're searching for the best wedding venues in Charlotte, these are some of my personal favorites.

Quick Guide: Which Charlotte Wedding Venue Fits Your Style?

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden - Daniel Stowe Conservancy

Why I Love Photographing Here

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, recently renamed to Stowe Conservancy, offers an incredible variety of portrait locations without ever leaving the property. Between the gardens, pathways, fountains, and conservatory, every part of the day feels fresh and visually different. The staff is also consistently wonderful to work alongside, helping everything run smoothly behind the scenes.

Perfect For: Couples looking for a naturally elegant venue with beautiful gardens, peaceful surroundings, and an elevated outdoor feel.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The fountain gardens and the stunning Orchid Conservatory are two of my favorite places for portraits. They provide timeless, romantic backdrops that photograph beautifully in every season.

Things to Know Before You Book: The gardens remain open to the public outside of the areas reserved for your wedding. While this rarely causes any issues, it's something to be aware of if you're hoping for complete privacy throughout the property.

Separk Mansion

Why I Love Photographing Here

If I know I'm photographing a wedding at Separk Mansion, I already know the light is going to be incredible. The indoor spaces are filled with soft natural light, making portraits and candid moments consistently beautiful throughout the day regardless of the weather.

Perfect For: Elegant, black tie weddings with a timeless and sophisticated atmosphere.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The balcony overlooking the grand staircase creates dramatic portraits, while the gardens outside offer beautiful greenery and classic architecture.

Things to Know Before You Book: Although it's a favorite among Charlotte-area couples, Separk Mansion is located about 40 minutes outside of Uptown Charlotte. Be sure to factor travel time into your planning if many of your guests are staying in the city.

The Ruth by Beau Monde

Why I Love Photographing Here

The Ruth has an energy that's hard to match. From the stylish bar to the lively dance floor, it's the perfect venue for couples who want their wedding to feel modern, fun, and full of celebration.

Perfect For: Couples planning a contemporary wedding with incredible food, signature cocktails, and an unforgettable dance party.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The bar area creates some of my favorite portraits in the venue. It feels editorial while still capturing the excitement of the evening. The patio area also offers beautiful light during golden hour.

Things to Know Before You Book: Weekend parking in the surrounding area can sometimes be limited. Giving guests parking recommendations ahead of time can help make arrivals much smoother.

Providence Cotton Mill

Why I Love Photographing Here

Providence Cotton Mill feels incredibly spacious, giving couples and guests room to spread out and enjoy the day. Between the industrial architecture and outdoor spaces, there are countless opportunities for portraits with completely different looks.

Perfect For: Large celebrations that blend industrial character with indoor and outdoor spaces.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The front entrance provides an incredible architectural backdrop and creates some of my favorite portraits of the day.

Things to Know Before You Book: Because of the size of the property and the amount of walking involved, it's worth considering accessibility for any guests with mobility concerns.

Childress Vineyards

Why I Love Photographing Here

Childress Vineyards feels like a destination wedding without ever leaving North Carolina. The beautiful grounds, elegant architecture, and relaxed atmosphere make it one of the most unique venues in the region.

Perfect For: Mid-sized weddings for couples who love wine country charm and a relaxed yet elegant celebration.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The grand entrance with the fountains creates timeless portraits that immediately showcase the beauty of the property.

Things to Know Before You Book: The reception space is naturally a little darker than some other venues. If you love a cozy, romantic reception atmosphere, you'll probably love it. If you're hoping for a very bright reception room, it's something to keep in mind during your venue search.

Bansen Farms

Why I Love Photographing Here

Bansen Farms shines when couples want to embrace the outdoors. The ceremony space and surrounding property are absolutely gorgeous, especially during the fall when the landscape comes alive with color.

Perfect For: Couples dreaming of a scenic outdoor wedding surrounded by nature.

My Favorite Portrait Location: Honestly, the entire property is beautiful. Everywhere you turn offers another great backdrop, making it easy to create a diverse gallery without traveling anywhere else.

Things to Know Before You Book: If you're planning an outdoor celebration, I highly recommend having a weather backup plan. While there are indoor spaces, they may not be feasible for a larger group. A tent rental can provide peace of mind while still preserving the outdoor experience.

The Terrace at Cedar Hill

Why I Love Photographing Here

It's hard to beat a downtown venue that also offers convenient parking. The skyline views are beautiful, and the large windows fill the indoor space with gorgeous natural light throughout the day.

Perfect For: Couples wanting an urban wedding with city views and a convenient location.

My Favorite Portrait Location: Inside, the natural window light is beautiful. For portraits, however, I often recommend stepping off-site to take advantage of nearby locations that offer more variety and flexibility.

Things to Know Before You Book: The outdoor balcony is more limited than many couples expect. If portraits are a high priority, planning an additional nearby portrait location will give you many more options.

VanLandingham Estate

Why I Love Photographing Here

Historic homes have a charm that's difficult to replicate, and VanLandingham Estate combines that elegance with beautifully maintained grounds and a spacious reception tent. It feels refined without feeling overly formal.

Perfect For: Couples looking for a classic estate wedding with historic character and beautifully landscaped gardens.

My Favorite Portrait Location: The greenhouse is one of my favorite portrait locations on the property. It's unique, romantic, and photographs beautifully throughout the day.

Things to Know Before You Book: Spring and summer weddings can be warm, and the gardens naturally bring mosquitoes with them. Planning ahead with fans, refreshments, and bug spray can help keep everyone comfortable.

How to Choose the Right Wedding Venue

The "best" wedding venue isn't necessarily the most expensive or the most popular—it's the one that fits your vision.

As you tour venues, think about more than just the ceremony space. Consider:

  • Guest capacity

  • Indoor backup options

  • Getting-ready spaces

  • Sunset timing for portraits

  • Accessibility for guests

  • Parking

  • The overall atmosphere you want your wedding to have

The venue you choose will shape your entire day, so it's worth finding one that truly feels like you.
