Others remind you that none of those things are what make a wedding unforgettable.
This fall wedding at Bansen Farms was one of those days.
From the moment I arrived, there was a calmness that settled over everything. The venue itself already feels more like a family property tucked into the woods than a traditional wedding venue, and it suited this couple perfectly. Nothing about the day felt rushed or performative. Instead, it felt intentional, comfortable, and completely authentic to the people at the center of it all.
Why Bansen Farms Is Such a Beautiful Fall Wedding Venue
One of my favorite things about Bansen Farms is how naturally it blends into the landscape.
The wooded ceremony space, winding paths, string lights, and warm autumn colors create a setting that doesn't need much decoration to feel beautiful. It has an intimate atmosphere that invites guests to slow down, settle in, and simply enjoy being together.

If I had to describe this couple in one word, it would be comfortable.
Not comfortable with the wedding.
Comfortable with each other.
Throughout the entire day, they carried themselves with a quiet confidence that was impossible not to notice. Whether they were standing together during portraits or simply sitting beside one another before the reception, they had this incredible ability to make it feel like no one else existed.
As a photographer, those are my favorite couples to work with.
You don't have to manufacture connection when it's already there.
You simply recognize it when it happens.
Natural Details That Reflected Their Story
Their ceremony felt earthy, relaxed, and deeply personal.
Guests participated in a handfasting ceremony, each person received birdseed to toss afterward, and nearly every detail reflected their personalities instead of current wedding trends.
Even the guest list reflected that same feeling.
This wasn't a crowd gathered for a spectacle.
It was a close-knit group of family and friends who genuinely seemed grateful to spend the afternoon together.
There wasn't pressure for an elaborate reception schedule or constant entertainment.
People talked.
They laughed.
They caught up with one another.
Sometimes that's exactly what a wedding should be.
Every Couple Deserves to Feel Like the Best Version of Themselves
One of my favorite things about this wedding had nothing to do with the venue.
It wasn't the flowers.
It wasn't the weather.
It wasn't even the beautiful fall colors.
It was watching two people who were completely themselves.
They weren't trying to fit into someone else's idea of what a wedding should look like.
They showed up exactly as they were—kind, gracious, funny, deeply in love, and completely comfortable in their own skin.
That's the kind of confidence that photographs beautifully every single time.
Why Family Portraits Matter—Even After Sunset
One thing many couples don't realize about fall weddings is just how quickly daylight disappears.
By the time we reached family portraits, it was completely dark outside.
For many photographers, that can become one of the most stressful parts of the day.
Large family groups require enough depth of field to keep everyone sharp, which means relying on very wide apertures simply isn't an option. Without enough light, beautiful family portraits become nearly impossible.
This is where experience with off-camera flash makes such a difference.
For these portraits, I combined one off-camera flash with an on-camera light to evenly illuminate everyone while still preserving the warm glow of Bansen Farms' string lights behind them.
The result?
Family portraits that still felt warm, inviting, and natural instead of looking like they were taken in the middle of the night.
It's one of those parts of wedding photography that most couples never think about—until they receive a gallery full of beautiful images despite the sun having disappeared hours earlier.
And Then...The Dip
Every wedding deserves one story.
Theirs happened during their nighttime portraits.
We decided to end the evening with a dramatic dip beneath the glowing string lights.
They committed.
The dip looked fantastic.
...and then they both immediately toppled over laughing.
It's still one of my favorite images from the entire wedding because it's the perfect reminder that weddings don't have to be flawless to be unforgettable.
Sometimes the photos everyone laughs about for years become the favorites.
