Why Connection Will Always Matter More Than the Location

October 28, 2026/ Clark's Creek nature Preserve/ Amanda Moss

When couples start planning their engagement session, one of the first questions I get is:

"Where should we go?"

It's a great question—but it's usually not the most important one.

The truth is, the location isn't what makes a photograph memorable. The people in it do.

I've photographed couples in gardens, breweries, rooftops, city streets, open fields, and quiet wooded trails. Some locations are undeniably beautiful, but what people remember years later isn't the backdrop. It's the way they looked at each other. The laugh they didn't know I captured. The quiet moments between poses.

That's the part that lasts.

A Beautiful Location Is a Bonus—Not the Goal

There's nothing wrong with choosing a stunning location. I love helping couples find places that fit their personalities.

But the pressure to find the perfect spot often creates unnecessary stress.

Some of my favorite sessions have happened in places most people would drive right past. A simple trail. An open meadow. A patch of evening light filtering through the trees.

When the focus shifts from the scenery to the connection, the photos become timeless.

Your Story Is What People Notice

The couples whose galleries feel the most authentic aren't the ones who practiced poses beforehand.

They're the ones who showed up ready to spend an hour together.

We walk.

We talk.

We laugh.

Sometimes we wander until we find beautiful light. Sometimes we stand in one spot because the conversation is too good to interrupt.

Those moments can't be manufactured by a dramatic backdrop.

Simple Doesn't Mean Ordinary

Some of my favorite photographs are incredibly simple.

No elaborate setup.

No destination.

No props.

Just two people who genuinely enjoy being together.

Years from now, you'll remember how this season of life felt far more than the exact trail where the photos were taken.

That's why connection will always matter more than the location.
