Charlotte Family Photographer | An Editorial Downtown Family Session
/Family photos don't have to mean matching outfits in a field.
They can look like this.
When this Charlotte family showed up for their session, they brought confidence, personality, and style—and together we created something that felt more like an editorial than a traditional family portrait session.
We started in Marshall Park, where the soft evening light and water created a calm backdrop for elegant portraits. Mom wore a dramatic emerald gown while her sons complemented the look with rich greens and tailored layers. The result felt timeless, sophisticated, and completely authentic to them.
Then we changed everything.
The gowns disappeared.
The hoodies came out.
Denim jackets replaced formalwear.
We headed into Uptown Charlotte, finishing in one of my favorite parking decks where the city skyline became part of the story. The mood shifted from elegant to effortlessly cool, giving them two completely different looks in one evening.
One of my favorite things about photographing families with older children is seeing everyone's personalities shine. There's less pressure to get toddlers to smile and more room to create images that reflect who each person really is.
Some portraits are polished.
Some are playful.
Some feel like they belong in a magazine.
All of them tell the story of a mom who simply wanted to celebrate this season of life with her boys.
Because that's reason enough.
Why Downtown Charlotte Is Perfect for Family Photos
If you're looking for something different from the typical park session, Uptown Charlotte offers incredible variety within a short walk.
During this session we used:
Marshall Park
The historic courthouse steps
Modern architecture
City streets
A rooftop parking deck with skyline views
The combination creates a gallery that feels dynamic and uniquely Charlotte while giving your family multiple looks without driving across the city.
Family Photos Don't Have to Look Traditional
Some families love wide-open fields.
Others feel more at home surrounded by city streets, architecture, and clean lines.
Whether your family is dressed to the nines or rocking your favorite sneakers and hoodies, the goal is always the same: create photographs that feel like you.
Years from now, I want you to look back and remember not just what everyone looked like—but who you were together in that season.
